The Water Point Mapper has been developed to respond to needs for rural water supply data analysis. It includes the potential to analyse and map key water supply monitoring indicators.

The tool is freely available, based on Excel and converts geographically referenced data into maps visualized in Google Earth. The tool is:

  • Can be customised to produce maps on any indicators.
  • Can use mobile phone for collecting GPS coordinates.
  • Works off-line.
  • The Mapper uses a small number of core parameters to produce maps. Additional maps can be generated using non-essential parameters

The Mapper has point and shape data handling capability so trends can be aggregated and presented at local-authority administrative level

It is designed to work using Windows Excel and Google Earth to visualise the data. If saving the file save as Excel 2003 application to visualise data. Once Google Earth has been installed, it can be run offline.

It does not require an internet connection to generate maps.
Detailed base maps can be cached in Google Earth when an internet
